Friday Musings & Los Angeles Market Update

Every time I travel, I am so happy when I arrive into LAX. How fortunate are we to live in a place that for so many is a bucket-list vacation destination? Sure, we have earthquakes and traffic at seemingly all times of day, but the beach, the sunsets, and 284 days of sunshine is a true blessing to call home. 📷After visiting family in Boston this past week, I was surprised to learn that getting home from LAX now requires a little more than navigating to arrivals and clicking ‘confirm uber’ on my phone. In case you haven’t received the memo, the new ride-share system started on Oct. 29th, is called ‘LAX-it’. To help abate airport congestion, you now take a shuttle to a designated off-site lot where you can catch a taxi or order a car via a ride-share app. The experience wasn’t terrible, but definitely something to keep in mind as you’re travelling this upcoming holiday season. 📷Speaking of the holidays and perfect seques, we’ve launched wine into space. You read that correctly. A startup with its priorities straight sent up a case of bordeaux to study how the aging process for wine is affected by a microgravity environment. Colonizing Mars may be closer than we think, and welcome to 2019. Where you can purchase at-home gene editing kits, the deceased can be turned into diamonds, and our vino is literally out-of-this-world.  📷As cool as Mars sounds, more terrestrial efforts to combat overpopulation gained momentum this week with Apple’s announcement yesterday that it would commit $2.5 billion to help address the state’s homeless population and ease a housing shortage that has driven up prices across California. That’s particularly good news for renters and teachers, nurses, first responders, police officers and firefighters, who will benefit from a planned financial assistance initiative.  Along with this incentive, continued decreases in mortgage rates combined with more available inventory in 2019 has helped balance the dynamics between buyers and sellers compared to last year. Prices continue to hold steady and the fact that high-net individuals continue to invest in Los Angeles sparks confidence in an enduring market.
